Brandon Rigby and Beth Bukovsky
In support of employee transition after Operations completion, the PCAPP Total Workforce Planning (TWP) program implemented additional skills training to prepare the employees for relocation across broader Amentum. A Safety Culture Leadership class was pioneered at the WIPP Project in Carlsbad, New Mexico, specifically targeting skills needed to manage successfully in a high hazard environment. The classes included subjects like communication and teamwork, human relations and organizations, leadership, and safety program management.
The course was recognized as a best practice for the Department of Energy high hazard projects, and PCAPP wanted to bring that best practice into the Department of Defense high hazard projects to continuously improve leadership training. TWP partnered with Pueblo Community College to provide this opportunity to leadership at PCAPP. 28 employees have now completed the course and earned 12 college credits as well!
Brandon Rigby and Elizabeth Bukovsky were two of the first group of employees who attended the classes. Brandon is a superintendent in PCAPP’s Waste Management department and Beth is an I.T. Administrative Specialist.
Brandon shared his thoughts on the program, “I felt that our time at the safety culture leadership program was very valuable. I appreciated the opportunity to take the class with front line leadership from the project. As we shared our successes and failures, I was relieved to find out that I was not the only leader that struggled with situations. We were able to learn our own personal leadership styles and the pros and cons to each style.”
Beth said, “The instructors tried to make the material as relevant as possible to our current work environment while also sharing personal stories from their own lives. Learning about more about leadership, and safety in a high hazard work environment sharpened communication skills and taught me new skills to use everyday."
Kudos to all of our graduates for investing their time in improving their leadership skills!
