Amentum’s Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (PCAPP) achieved multiple project milestones during September 2021.
The team set three impressive milestones the week of September 13, 2021 including two all-time chemical demilitarization records as well as attaining the 50% destruction milestone for the 105mm projectile campaign.
Single day destruction record of 1,472 rounds destroyed on September 14, 2021
Weekly destruction record of 6,835 rounds destroyed the week of September 13, 2021
Achieved 50% destruction of the 105mm projectile campaign on September 15, 2021
PCAPP Amentum Project Manager Kim Jackson commented “The 105mm projectile campaign has gone extremely well since starting in December 2020. In only nine months, the workforce has reached the halfway point of this campaign.” The 50% campaign destruction mark equates to more than 191,000 chemical weapons that have been destroyed and eliminated from the stockpile.
To wrap up September the Pueblo team surpassed destruction of half-a-million cumulative chemical rounds processed on September 27, 2021. The rate of destruction during the COVID pandemic has been impressive, and PCAPP is only the second of 9 chemical demilitarization sites to ever accomplish this feat.
This team is so proud of their accomplishments in support of completing destruction of all aging chemical weapons in the United States. Mark Evans, SVP from NSS, attributes the team’s success to their operating culture. “The unwavering commitment to safety and the innovations from the workforce to improve operability of the plant is the reason for the dramatic turnaround in processing performance”. The team is now focused on safely completing the 105mm projectile campaign in the main plant and starting surrogate trial burns in their Static Detonation Chambers in late October 2021.
