Maintenance department celebrating a PCAPP milestone - counting down!

Problem solving and innovation are what defines the PCAPP Maintenance department!  These individuals have led the turnaround of continuous improvement in the two plants to drive improved equipment availability and improve efficiency of operations.  This team has performed over 110,000 work orders since the start of mission operations!!!   Their skill level to support mechanical, instrumentation, electrical and modification work in the field is superb.  But what really sets this team apart is their understanding of downtime issues and ownership to solve the issues to eliminate the downtime issue completely.

Targeted areas for improvement start with the primary processing equipment at the main plant.  The maintenance team worked to implement a variety of improvements to solve downtime issues related to hydraulics, high pressure wash water pumps, sensors that were affected by chemical agent, and rotating/moving equipment that would seize up due to corrosion attack.  The same type of approach was implemented at the Static Detonation Chamber complex with the same positive results achieved.   In just six months the SDC plant availability improved from 35% to 75%!!!!

A member of our maintenance team involved with main plant maintenance improvements is Nate Gallegos.  He has been at PCAPP since Nov 2009 and has worked through the construction, commissioning, and operations phase.  What Nate likes best about PCAPP is the people and all the improvements that he and his fellow employees have implemented on the Cavity Access Machines!  His most memorable Level A entry was building scaffold on the second level of the Munition Washout Room in a harness for crane work.  Definitely not a routine activity at the project!

His smile and unwavering enthusiasm to support the mission is well known!  Hat’s off to Nate for being another special employee at PCAPP.
